Councillor Saeed Chaudhary
Councillor Saeed Chaudhary has been appointed Mayor of Burnley 2026/27.
“Burnley did not just give me a place to live. It gave me a purpose.
I have lived in Burnley for more than 50 years, and it is an honour to serve as Mayor of the borough that has given me so much.
My working life began in Burnley’s textile mills before I went on to serve local people as a bus driver for 12 years. I later became a shop steward with the Transport and General Workers’ Union, an experience which helped shape my belief that every person deserves to be heard and treated equally and fairly.
That commitment to fairness has stayed with me throughout my life, from my work in schools and more than 25 years on the Employment Tribunal, to my service as a Burnley councillor.
I was first elected to Burnley Council in 1991, representing Coal Clough ward, and later served the Daneshouse with Stoneyholme ward. During that time, I worked closely with residents, listened to their concerns and raised issues on their behalf.
As Mayor, I look forward to meeting people from across Burnley and Padiham, supporting local communities, and representing the borough at civic events and engagements throughout the year.
I am grateful to Mayoresses Naseem Akhtar, Sobia Saeed, Amira Akram and Iqra Mahmood, who will support me during my year as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Alan Hosker.
It is truly an honour to serve, and I look forward to giving back to the community that has given me so much.”
Beneficiaries for the Mayor’s charities will be confirmed in due course.
