Street Naming and Property Numbering

The Council creates new street names and property numbers on housing and commercial developments. This includes developments of large estates and single properties. Royal Mail is sent details of new addresses and they then allocate postcodes.

If a property has been vacant for a while its address can sometimes be deleted from Royal Mail’s system and no longer has an official postcode.  If so, please email us at snn@burnley.gov.uk and we will arrange for the address to be reinstated by Royal Mail.

Renaming and numbering of existing properties is a chargeable service.

The breakdown for charges is detailed below:

 Street naming and numberingPrices
Naming or amending of a property name/number£58.00
Naming or amending of a building name (e.g. flats)£115.00
Naming or amending of a street name£231.00
-plus charge per property for naming or amending of a street name£23.00

The Council currently follows the Geoplace code of practice for Street Naming and Numbering.
