Planning for Health SPD

The Planning for Health Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) has been prepared by Burnley Council as part of its planning policy framework. It was adopted by the Council on 26 October 2022.

The SPD highlights the ways in which the planning system can contribute to protecting and improving people’s physical and mental health and promote the creation of healthy places. It explains how the Local Plan policies can be applied to achieve better health outcomes and outlines or signposts other strategies and initiatives that support and complement the Local Plan policies.

The SPD and accompanying Adoption Statement are available to download at the foot of this page. Paper copies will also be available at the Council’s Contact Burnley Offices and Burnley and Padiham Libraries during their opening hours.

Preparation

The Council invited comments on a draft of the SPD as part of a 6-week consultation which ran from 29 June and 10 August 2022. The consultation draft is also still available to view or download at the foot of this page.

A revised SPD taking into account the consultation responses received was presented to the Council’s Executive on 26 October 2022.
