The borough’s heritage assets are finite resources which once lost are impossible to replace. The borough’s heritage assets include:
- Statutorily Listed Buildings – Historic England page
- Locally listed buildings
- Registered Parks and Gardens
- Conservation Areas
- Archaeological sites including Scheduled Monuments
Through its planning functions and wider activities the Council’s seeks to conserve and enhance these assets, including through:
- Producing guidance and policy documents e.g. the Local Plan and SPDs
- The designation and review of conservation areas including the preparation of conservation area appraisals and management plans
- Maintaining a list of locally important heritage assets (The Local List)
- Monitoring listed buildings at risk from neglect and decay and working with owners to secure their repair and reuse
- Identifying grant and funding opportunities
- Engaging local people in discovering, presenting and conserving the borough’s heritage and offering help, advice and information as appropriate and as resources permit
