Burnley Levelling Up

Working closely with project partners, Burnley Council secured Levelling Up investment of £19.9million to bring forward three major town centre schemes.

The investment will enable the further expansion of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) through the redevelopment of former Newtown Mill, significant environmental improvements to the area between Turf Moor football ground and the town centre, as well as further upgrades to Manchester Road railway station.

Councillor Afrasiab Anwar, leader of Burnley Council said: “The Levelling Up investment is great news for Burnley. It follows on from the Council’s recent acquisition of Charter Walk, our work on Lower St James’s Street Heritage Action Zone, and our continued work in bringing forward Pioneer Place.”

“These three key projects within our Town Centre and Canalside Masterplan, along with our other developments, will mean that Burnley town centre can continue to develop, diversify and prosper. I am so pleased that these projects will now be delivered”.
