Young Burnley pupil wins climate action poster competition

A young Burnley pupil has been named the winner of a poster competition encouraging people to take simple steps to help protect the planet.

Qirat Rehman was chosen as the winner of a Climate Action poster competition run by Burnley Leisure and Culture with local schools.

Her colourful poster, titled “Save the Planet”, includes messages about recycling, keeping the air clean, walking more, reusing items and not dropping litter. The winning design will be displayed in sports clubs and community settings across Burnley to help encourage residents to think about the small everyday actions they can take to support the environment.

Qirat received a £25 Burnley Leisure and Culture gift voucher as her prize.

Councillor Mohammed Ishtiaq, Burnley Council Executive Member for Community and Environmental Services said:

“Qirat should be very proud of her winning poster. It is bright, thoughtful and carries an important message in a way that people of all ages can understand.

“This competition has been a lovely way to encourage children to think creatively about climate action and the small changes we can all make to help look after our environment.

“Burnley Council’s Climate Change Strategy highlights the importance of working with partners, schools and communities to help create a cleaner, greener and more sustainable borough, and it is fantastic to see young people playing their part.”

The winning poster will now be displayed in sports club and community settings across Burnley.
