Your bill has details of how much you need to pay and will specify the amount of each instalment and the dates on which they must be paid. If you do not keep up with your payments, the Council will issue certain notices to you and recovery action will start.
We will issue a reminder
If you miss an instalment, we will send you a reminder notice asking for the payment that you have missed. If you don’t pay the overdue amount by the date specified, we will issue a summons.
We will issue a 2nd reminder
The council will issue a second reminder if, after receiving a first reminder, you pay the overdue amount by the date specified, but your instalments fall behind again. The second reminder will warn you that a third default will lead to your instalments being cancelled and the full remaining balance for the year becoming due in advance. If you don’t pay the overdue amount by the date specified, we will issue a summons.
We will issue a Final Notice
The council will issue a Final Notice for the full remaining balance for the year, if your payments fall behind for a third time. If you respond to the Final Notice by just paying the equivalent of one monthly instalment, a court summons will still be issued for the remaining balance. If you don’t pay the overdue amount by the date specified, we will issue a summons.
Once the required reminder notices have been served, and an account remains in arrears…
We will issue a summons
The Council will make complaint to the Magistrates’ Court that you have not paid as demanded and the summons will give you notice to appear at the Magistrates’ Court at a time and date specified. Costs of £75.00 are incurred on the day the summons is issued and will form part of the debt.
