Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction 1.1 These terms and conditions (“Terms”) apply to the “Hate Litter, Love Design” competition (“Competition”) hosted by Burnley Council (“the Promoter”). 1.2 By entering the Competition, participants agree to be bound by these Terms.

2. Eligibility 2.1 The Competition is open to individuals aged 16 or older who attend Burnley College.

3. How to Enter 3.1 To enter, participants must submit their design ideas via the online form available athttps://burnley.gov.uk/competition/. 3.2 Entries can be submitted in one of two ways:

  • Write It: Participants can write a brief for Burnley Council’s Graphic Design team outlining their ideas for spreading the anti-litter message.
  • Draw It: Participants can create a design, sketch, or mood board illustrating their concept. 3.3 Entries must include all required information, including the participant’s name, email address, and submission (written or visual). 3.4 The deadline for entries is 11:59 PM on Sunday, 26th January. 3.5 No purchase is necessary to enter the Competition.

4. Competition Dates 4.1 The Competition opens on 10th January 2025 and closes at 11:59 PM on 26th January 2025.

5. Prizes 5.1 The winner will receive:

  • A £250 cash prize.
  • A signed copy of Lyndon White’s book, presented by the author and Burnley Council’s Chief Executive.
  • The accolade of having their work published and displayed in various formats across Burnley, including digital screens and print media.
  • A half-day experience working with Council staff to bring their concept to life. 5.2 The prize is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered unless specified. 5.3 The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize with an alternative of equal or greater value if necessary.

6. Winner Selection and Notification 6.1 The winner will be selected by a panel of judges, including graphic designers, the communications manager, the brand manager, and the Chief Executive of Burnley Council. 6.2 The selection will be based on creativity, feasibility, and the design’s alignment with the anti-litter message. 6.3 The winner will be notified via the college, email within 5 working days of the closing date. 6.4 If the winner cannot be contacted or fails to respond within 7 days of notification, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternative winner.

7. Publicity 7.1 By entering the Competition, participants agree to the use of their name, likeness, and entry for promotional purposes related to the Competition without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law. 7.2 The winner may be required to participate in promotional activities, including media interviews or public events.

8. Data Protection 8.1 Personal information provided by participants will be processed in accordance with Burnley Council’s privacy policy, available at https://burnley.gov.uk/privacy. 8.2 Entrants’ data will be used solely for the purpose of administering the Competition and will not be shared with third parties without consent.

9. General 9.1 The Promoter reserves the right to amend or withdraw the Competition at any time without prior notice. 9.2 The Promoter’s decision on any aspect of the Competition is final and binding. 9.3 The Promoter is not responsible for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, or corrupted due to technical issues. 9.4 The Competition is governed by the laws of England and Wales, and entrants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
