If you have a food business and wish to sell foodstuffs abroad, you may need a food export certificate.
Please note before you apply & pay for a certificate: you must be a registered food business operating within the borough of Burnley and have already spoken with us about exporting.
How to apply
To apply for a food export certificate, you will need to:
1. Contact the embassy or consulate of the country you wish to export to
To find the embassy or consulate of the country visit:
GOV.UK – find a British embassy, high commission or consulate
Once contacted, they will supply the information and format required for the certificate.
2. Required wording of the certificate
We can only provide a FOOD SAFETY PREMISES ENDORSEMENT FOR EXPORT CERTIFICATE. We are unable to certify and/or attest that any food products have been individually inspected and declared as safe and fit for human consumption.
2. Contact us with the certificate information from the embassy or consulate
Once you have received the certificate information, and are satisfied that a food safety premises endorsement will be acceptable to the receiving country, you should contact us with the certificate details by emailing envhealth@burnley.gov.uk
3. Make payment
A payment is due for an export certificate – once initial correspondence has been made and the export certificate has been approved, a link to make a payment will be provided.
Subject to the required wording, before a certificate is issued, we may need make additional checks (eg. inspection of the premises).
