Supporting Small Business Relief – 2026/27

From 1 April 2026, the UK Government has put in place Supporting Small Business Relief to help small and local businesses manage increases in their business rates following the latest revaluation.

What it is

This relief helps protect small business owners from sharp rises in their annual business rates bills if they lose other discounts like Small Business Rate Relief, Rural Rate Relief or Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Relief. It is an extension of the Supporting Small Business Relief 2023.

How it works

If your business rates bill would otherwise go up a lot because your property’s value has increased, the relief caps the rise in your bill.

Key figures for 2026/27:

  • Your bill won’t rise by more than £800 in the year OR
  • It won’t increase by more than a percentage cap based on your property’s rateable value (whichever is greater):
    • Up to £20,000: up to 5%
    • £20,001 to £100,000: up to 15%
    • Over £100,000: up to 30%

No action needed

The relief is applied automatically if you qualify.

This support is part of wider efforts to keep costs manageable for small, independent businesses and help them continue serving customers and communities across the country.
