Protected Trees

Tree Preservation Orders

Tree preservation orders (TPO) are made to protect tree(s) and woodland(s) of individual or collective merit.

The protection requires that before most types of works are undertaken to these trees you will need to apply for permission from the Council.

To check if a tree is protected, please contact the Development Control team.

A guide to tree preservation orders can be found on the government’s website.

If you carry out tree work without permission tree owners and their agents are liable to be prosecuted.
