Burnley’s Local Plan 2012-2032 was adopted on 31 July 2018 will reach its fifth anniversary on 31 July 2023.
Regulations introduced in 2017 require local planning authorities to ‘review’ their local plans every five years from the date of their adoption to assess whether they need updating; and to publish their reasons if they consider that no update is necessary. Local plans were always required to be kept under review, but the new Regulation formalises this requirement.
The 5-year Review was considered by the Council’s Executive at its meeting on 12 July 2023, following consideration by Scrutiny Committee on 5 July 2023.
The decision was that an Update of Burnley’s Local Plan 2012-2032 is not necessary at the present time. The Report and Appendices which set out the reasons for the decision are available to download below.
