Council and Clarets stand together against domestic violence

Burnley Council invited Burnley Football Club and Burnley FC in the Community to stand side by side in support of the international campaign tackling violence against women.

The 16 days of action White Ribbon campaign, which starts tomorrow (25th November), aims to encourage public, private, and voluntary organisations to take action against domestic abuse and violence.

The council recently achieved White Ribbon accreditation for its pledge to do what it can to change the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse and violence.

Employment and skills hub Thrive celebrates official launch

Thrive, a Burnley-based, collaborative effort between local and national support services aimed at getting 16-24 year olds into education or work, has been officially launched.

Representatives from local businesses, including VEKA and Fagan & Whalley, together with their apprentices and partners such as the DWP and Burnley Council were at the event at Thrive’s base at the Calico Group’s offices in the town centre.

Parking and other charges set to be frozen yet again

Parking charges on council-run car parks in Burnley are set to be frozen for a further 12 months as councillors consider proposed fees and charges for council services next year.

Garden waste collection subscriptions, fees for burial and cremation, charges for the collection of bulky goods, and admission and parking fees at Towneley Hall and Park are also all set to remain unchanged.

The proposals for fees and charges for council services next year are part of the wider process for setting the council’s overall budget for 2022/23.
