Northern Powerhouse Minister officially opens Innovation Drive

The Northern Powerhouse Minister, Andrew Percy, MP, officially opened Burnley’s state-of-the-art engineering supply park, Innovation Drive this morning.

Based at the former site of a Michelin Tyre factory, Innovation Drive is a 400,000 sq ft Advanced Engineering and technology business hub, which is now home to major AEM, aerospace and technology business and SMEs including Kaman Tooling, BCW Engineering, Safran Nacelles and the Lancashire Digital Technology Centre (LDTC).

The Northern Powerhouse Minister, Andrew Percy MP, will be undertaking a tour of Lancashire today (Wednesday November 9th) which will include a series of official engagements highlighting Lancashire’s significance within the Powerhouse initiative.

Landlords praised for their professional approach

Landlords and managing agents have been praised for their professional approach to looking after their properties and tenants.

The three organisations have been presented with certificates to mark their successful applications to Burnley Council’s good landlord and agent scheme (GLAS).

Mujeeb Rehman, of RPC Lettings, has also become the first landlord to achieve the gold standard as part of the scheme.

Official report praises council's performance and ambition

In-depth report emphasises positive achievements, and suggests key issues for future work

“Challenge us”. “Review our work”. That was the invite Burnley Council recently put to a high-powered team from the Local Government Association.

Their ‘peer challenge’ report has just been published. Key findings include:

·        Burnley Council has strong political and managerial leadership in place

·        On this basis, its work makes a positive difference to the borough

Burnley shortlisted for national ‘driving growth’ award

Council’s work to support established firms and attract new employers to borough recognised

Burnley Council has been recognised for its partnership work with business to develop economic growth in the area.

The shortlist for the national Local Government Chronicle Awards has just been announced, and Burnley has taken a place in the ‘Driving Growth’ category.

Latest life-saving equipment installed in Burnley centre

Another piece of life-saving equipment has been installed in Burnley town centre.

Burnley Council has been working with North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to install defibrillator units in public places across the town.

The briefcase-sized defibrillators are available in Burnley Town Hall, Burnley Market Hall, the Mechanics Theatre, Towneley Hall and Contact Burnley.

Double Olympic champion among guests at Mayor’s charity event

More than 150 people enjoyed the Mayor of Burnley’s annual charity dinner dance.

Among the guests at the Mechanics Theatre, Burnley, was double Olympic gold medallist cyclist Steven Burke. The Colne-born champion donated a signed Olympic tracksuit top which raised £210.

The evening was a resounding success, with just over £2,000 raised for the Mayor’s charities – Pendleside Hospice, the British Heart Foundation and the Samaritans.

The countdown is on to Burnley’s first ever Literary Festival - a ten day festival, over the half term period, between the 29th October and 7th November, with events taking place across Burney Town Centre.

Nation’s favourite bear pays a visit to Burnley Town Hall

Members of staff at Burnley Town Hall have been treated to a very special visit by a fluffy yellow guest in support of Children in Need.

The BBC’s very own Pudsey Bear took time out of his packed fund-raising schedule and dropped by the town hall on Monday, 17th October.

The famous bear had a busy day strolling around Burnley town centre with his collection bucket raising funds for this year’s appeal.

Visits to the town hall and local businesses were organised by the town’s Boots store.
