Whether you’re a resident, tenant, or landlord, it’s important to let us know when you move or when your tenants change. This helps us keep Council Tax, electoral records, and local services accurate.

Who should tell us

  • Residents moving into, within, or out of Burnley

How to update your address

Submit and confirm – we’ll send you a confirmation once your records are updated.

  • You weren’t responsible for Council Tax at your previous home (e.g., living with parents)

Moving within Burnley

You already pay Council Tax in Burnley and are moving to another Burnley address

You’ll need:

Moving out of Burnley
  • You’re leaving the borough, or
  • You won’t be responsible for Council Tax at your new home (e.g., moving back with parents)

  • Address and postcode of the property you’re leaving
  • Date moved out, tenancy end date / sale date
  • Details of the new owner or landlord
  • Forwarding contact address

Final bill

After your move is processed, Burnley Council will send you a final bill showing any remaining balance.

Any amount owed must be paid within 14 days unless you pay by direct debit then final payment will be taken on the next payment date.
