It is an offence to drive a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire vehicle without the appropriate licence. Before granting a licence the individual must satisfy the Licensing Authority that they are a fit and proper person to hold such a licence. The assessment of fitness and propriety on application is based on the information provided in the application process. Driver behaviour, any change in circumstances or information coming to light after a licence is granted may result in a formal review of the licence which could lead to suspension or revocation.
