If you have lost your dog, there are several things you can do.

Report the dog as lost to the police so they can keep a record and, hopefully, contact you should it turn up or be found. Please note that the police no longer take in lost dogs. This is Burnley Council's responsibility.

Ensure your dog has a correct identity tag and is microchipped so that it can be returned to you quickly.

You can report a lost dog using our online service. Reports of lost dogs are checked against the found dog register so that the resident can be notified on the same working day whether their dog has been found and if so which kennels it can be collected from.

You can also contact the kennels that the council use, i.e. Pet Hotel Burnley (01282 455742), contact locals vets and other neighbouring authorities if you lost your dog near to local boundaries.

Out of hours service

The council's dog warden service operates between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

If you find a dog outside these hours the Council operates an out of hours dog kennelling service where stray dogs can be taken to Pet Hotel, Burnley, between the hours of 5pm - 10pm, Monday - Friday (except Bank Holidays) and 10am - 4pm, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

The council also offers an out of hours collection service for secured strayed dogs between the hours of 5pm - 9pm  Monday to Friday and 10am-4pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. This is for secured dogs only. To request this service please phone the Council's out of hours service on 01254 397212.
