MAPS Team

What is Burnley MAPS?

The Multi-Agency Problem Solving Team, or MAPS, was established in August 2006 with funding from Government Office North West (GONW) and Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF).

The team brings together a wide range of partners to lead a co-ordinated approach to tackling Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) and crime in local communities and so improve the quality of life for local residents.

The MAPS team has had many successes. Members of the Royal Family and delegates from Poland and Australia have visited the team for the purpose of viewing the partnership working model. Further recognition has also been received through development and implementation of projects, for example, The SPACE Bus.

What is the role of the MAPS Team?

It develops and enhaces partnership working across a range of agencies to facilitate a multi-agency approach to problem solving

  • It implements the Community Safety Partnership Strategy

  • Works with Burnley's Community Safety Partnership(CSP) to ensure CSP aims and objectives are met

  • Works with other agencies on a 'one team, shared aims' basis, thus approaching multi-agency working through sharing resources, knowledge, experience, skills and information

The SPACE Bus

One of MAPS showcase projects is Burnley's award winning Youth Bus, now an independent project which maintains strong links with the Community Safety Partnership.

The SPACE Bus aims to reduce crime and disorder, and, anti-social behaviour and nuisance associated with young people by providing positive activities in partnership with young people.

The need for the SPACE Bus was highlighted in a survey of almost 1000 youths in the Burnley Area. Young people said they wanted somewhere to chat with friends in a safe environment.

Learn more about the SPACE bus, its journey's throughout the Borough and the activities it provides for young people.
