Whittlefield with Ightenhill

Whittlefield with Ightenhill is in the west of Burnley borough. The ward is largely countryside, and part of the 40-mile Burnley Way long distance walk passes through this area. It includes the parished area of Ightenhill.  

The 17th Century Gawthorpe Hall is in this area, a Jacobean historic house run and financed by the National Trust and Lancashire County Council.

Whittlefield with Ightenhill has a population of 6,013 (2011 census figures).

The proportion of detached housing in Whittlefield is relatively high: nearly half of the properties in the ward are detached. In Burnley, as a whole, only 13 per cent of properties are detached, in Lancashire as a whole, just over a fifth of properties are detached.

The average age of Whittlefield residents is 41.4 years. There are more residents aged 45-64 compared to most other wards. The 25-44 population is falling.

96% of residents are whit /white British.

67% of residents are employed, which compares with a borough wide employment rate of 58%. Whittlefield has the third lowest claimant total in Burnley as a whole.

Reported crime in Whittlefield increased by 4% between 2010-12, but anti-social behaviour fell by 28%. There were significant decreases in burglary and vehicle crime.

81% of residents do not consider themselves limited by their health problems. Almost half of Whittlefield residents rate their health as very good. Life expectancy is 80.3 years for men, and 82.7 years for women. This is above the borough and national averages.
