Business rates

Non-domestic rates, or business rates, is a tax on property that is not domestic and is the means by which businesses and others who occupy non-domestic properties make a contribution towards local services. The tax is collected by local councils on behalf of the Government.

Additional information is available in the leaflet that accompanies business rates bills.

You can now set up a Direct Debit online to pay your Business Rates.

BUSINESS RATES BILLS FOR 2017/18

Our Business Rates bills for 2017/18 will be issued over 13, 14 and 15 March 2017.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - MARCH 2017 - BUDGET ANNOUNCEMENT

The Government announced some changes to Business Rates which will be effective from 1 April 2017 in the latest budget on 8 March 2017. These were as follows:

  • Any business coming out of small business rate relief will benefit from an extra cap - meaning their rates will not increase by more than £50 a month
  • There will be a £1,000 discount on business rate bills for pubs with a rateable value of less than £100,00
  • A £300M fund will be made available to Councils to allow discretionary relief.

We are waiting for further guidance from Government about how to administer these changes, and will provide an update when we have more information.
